How to get your products into Google AI Mode and Gemini (Merchant Center and UCP)
How products appear in Google AI Mode and Gemini: Merchant Center feeds for eligibility and UCP for agent checkout. A practical checklist for brands.
The Apirro team
Products reach Google AI Mode and Gemini mainly through Google Merchant Center: an approved product feed with accurate prices, stock and policies makes them eligible to appear. For agent-led buying, Google uses the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), which lets Gemini search your catalogue, build a cart and start checkout with you.
Step 1: Merchant Center and a clean feed
Create or check your Merchant Center account, verify your website and submit a product feed (directly or through a Shopify or other platform integration). Fix disapprovals and warnings — missing GTINs, mismatched prices and unclear shipping or returns are the most common.
Step 2: Match the feed to the page
Google compares the feed with your product pages. Keep Product and Offer structured data on each page consistent with the feed, including price, currency and availability.
Step 3: Add UCP for agent checkout
UCP defines a discovery profile at /.well-known/ucp and services for catalogue search, carts and checkout sessions. A UCP endpoint lets Gemini move from recommending a product to building a cart and starting checkout. Availability of checkout features depends on Google's programme rules in your market.
Step 4: Monitor
Track whether your products appear in AI Mode answers for real buying questions, and watch Merchant Center for new issues after price or stock changes.
Apirro provides UCP endpoints through Agent Link™ and a public sandbox store that speaks UCP, linked from the demo page.
FAQ
Is Merchant Center enough on its own?
It makes products eligible to be shown. UCP adds the ability for Gemini to act on them — build a cart and start checkout.
Do I need Google Shopping ads?
No. Free product listings come from the same Merchant Center feed. Ads are a separate, optional choice.
Does UCP replace my checkout?
No. UCP describes how an agent talks to your commerce system; the order is still processed by your platform and payment provider.
