    What is agentic commerce infrastructure?

Agentic commerce infrastructure is the layer that lets AI assistants find, understand and buy a brand's products. What it includes and why brands need it.

    The Apirro team

Agentic commerce infrastructure is the technical layer that lets AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude find a brand's products, read accurate prices and stock, and hand a shopper to checkout. It combines machine-readable product data, discovery files, agent endpoints such as MCP and UCP, and a checkout path the brand controls.

    Why it exists

Shoppers increasingly ask an assistant what to buy instead of searching and clicking through results. The assistant then needs reliable facts — what the product is, what it costs, whether it is in stock, how delivery and returns work — and, increasingly, a way to start a purchase.

A normal storefront is built for people using a browser. Agentic commerce infrastructure adds a second front door built for software agents, without replacing the store you already run.

    The four layers

Most setups have the same four parts, whoever provides them:

    • Readable data: structured product data (Product and Offer schema, product feeds) with live price and availability.
    • Discovery: files such as llms.txt and /.well-known manifests that tell agents what the store offers and where its endpoints live.
    • Agent endpoints: interfaces like MCP (tool access for assistants) and UCP (a commerce protocol for catalogue, cart and checkout) that agents can call directly.
    • Checkout handoff and payments: a merchant-controlled path to complete the order, with payment authorisation handled by the brand's existing payment provider.

How it differs from SEO and AI visibility

SEO and AI visibility work help a brand get mentioned. Infrastructure makes the brand usable once it is mentioned: the assistant can check stock, build a cart and pass the shopper to checkout instead of sending them back to a search page.

    Where Apirro fits

Apirro provides Agentic Commerce Infrastructure: readiness scoring, agent-readable data, Agent Link™ MCP and UCP endpoints, and signed cart handoff to your checkout. You can try a public read-only example store on the demo page.

    FAQ

Do I need to rebuild my store for agentic commerce?

No. Agentic commerce infrastructure sits alongside your existing store. It reads your catalogue and exposes it to agents, and orders still complete in your current checkout and payment setup.

Is agentic commerce infrastructure the same as a chatbot?

No. A chatbot talks to shoppers on your own site. Infrastructure lets third-party assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude read your products and start a purchase wherever the shopper is.

    Which protocols matter today?

MCP for tool access, UCP for commerce flows, ACP for checkout inside ChatGPT and AP2 for agent payment authorisation. Each covers a different step, so most brands need more than one.
